Ford Emoji Jacket For Cycling Riders

Biking in cities may be exhilarating, but it may
also be harrowing and dangerous. In 2018, more than 850 cyclists were killed by
vehicle drivers only in US, a rise of 6.3% over the previous year. Over 2,000
cyclists are killed by drivers on the road in Europe per annum . Cyclists
attempt to make themselves more visible to drivers by the use of reflective
clothing and sparkling lights, but it never seems to be sufficient.

So here comes Ford with a completely unique
solution: an emoji jacket. As a part of its “Share the Road” campaign to
stronger cycling safety, the European division automakers designed a cycling
jacket with an LED display on the jacket rear that lights up with lot of number
emoji to convey the cyclist’s mood. A smiley face indicates a cheerful
cyclist, a frowny face a less happy one, and so on. There also directional
symbols for when a cyclist intends to form a turn and a hazard symbol once they
could also be experiencing a pneumatic tire.
“Emojis became a basic part of how we use
language,” said Neil Cohn, a linguist. “Whether wont to convey facial
expressions, humor, or sarcasm, they need become integral to our ability to
precise ourselves and quickly. This jacket designed in partnership with Ford
Share the Road allows riders to precise their feelings and creates a crucial
emotional relations between them and other road users.”
In addition to linguists, Ford worked with cyclists
and industrial experts designers from designerworks on this emoji jacket. But
the jacket is simply a proof-of-concept for now, and it’s unclear whether Ford
intends to bring them to promote and may this emoji jacket come in future.
Speaking personally, i might be the primary to shop
for one among these — even as long as I can program it to display a mid finger.
